The Probe lens represents a transformative approach to macro imaging through its innovative optical design. Its wide 85° field of view creates an immersive 'bug-eye' perspective while maintaining impressive depth of field at close focusing distances, all while achieving up to 2X magnification for revealing microscopic details. This unique combination of features allows photographers and filmmakers to capture both intricate subject details and environmental context in a single frame - a capability unmatched by conventional macro lenses.
A pioneering design that also features a slender 20mm diameter tip and extended 40cm barrel length, enabling access to confined spaces while maintaining comfortable working distances from subjects. This thoughtful engineering allows creative artists to capture perspectives in locations that would be inaccessible with traditional macro lenses, while the waterproof front barrel section opens up creative possibilities for through-liquid imaging.
Notable features include
- Extended 40cm probe with ultra-slim 20mm tip
- Wide 85º 'Bug Eye' perspective

Bug-Eye Perspective
Our Laowa 24mm, instead, allows you to focus really close – 2 cm (0.8 in.) @ 2:1 to the subject, showing a great amount of detail and texture. But at the same time, you can enjoy a compelling wide angle 'Bug Eye' view (84.1°) so that more of the background details can be included in the shot. You can easily create a very informative and stunning macro bug-eye perspective that no other lens can do!

2:1 Macro to Infinity focus
Enlarge to 2:1 maximum magnification and reveal details that cannot be seen with the naked eye. It is particularly useful for videographers since both finer details and environmental backgrounds can be captured in one shot.

Deep depth of field
The wide angle design also means much greater depth of field at close distances (compared to the telephoto macro lens) so that more background details can now be seen. Being able to focus so close but still have deep depth of field is a BIG advantage for both studio and wildlife photography.

Long, thin & tubular lens barrel
A different design approach to get you closer and into areas never done before. Thanks to the 40 cm long barrel, you can focus really close to the subject but still keep yourself and your camera a reasonable distance away.
Combined with a tiny 20mm lens tip, you can now probe around at a super close focus range without casting a big reflection in your subject, have more space for lighting or have the surrounding shrubbery in front of your view.
From a filmmaking perspective, the Tubular Lens barrel also allows shooting a lot of "slide in" shots through tiny areas. Imagine sliding the lens between candles on your birthday cake or sliding the lens inside a drink bottle.

Waterproof front barrel
In order to bring you an even more exciting perspective and take your photos or video to the next level, we have made the front barrel of the Laowa probe waterproof. The waterproof design also implies that shooting in dusty environments or with fine powders is not going to be a problem anymore.

Full Frame coverage
The Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe can cover both the standard 35mm full frame & Super35 (APS-C) image sensor.

Light to carry
With so many features equipped in one lens? Is this thing going to be as heavy as a big rock? Despite the weird look and long tubular design, the Laowa probe is actually super light and easy to carry. It weighs only 474g (1.04lbs), even lighter than a bottle of Coke.
